Membership

ACPE Bylaws specify several membership categories for interested agencies and individuals. ACPE members receive the ACPE News, and information about the annual conference, and member rates to educational events. Members are encouraged to participate in national and regional conferences. Membership is maintained by meeting association standards, ethics, and payment of annual membership fees.

ACPE Certified Educator
Membership in the ACPE as a Certified Educator is available only through successful completion of the certification process. More information is available in the certification section of our website.

ACPE Accredited Center
Accredited Center and System membership is available through the accreditation process. More information is available in the accreditation section of our website.


ACPE Membership categories open to individuals, agencies, and seminaries are:


The Spiritual Care Professional is for persons who have completed four or more units of CPE recognized by the ACPE. Spiritual Care Professional applicants are required to return a completed Accountability for Ethical Conduct Policy Report form which is included with the application. Spiritual Care Professionals serve on the Spiritual Care Professionals Advisory Council.

The Denomination/Faith Group/Agency Member category is for organizations that support and whose purpose and scope of activity is to enhance the mission and vision of the ACPE. Applications must be reviewed and accepted by the ACPE Board of Directors. Denomination/Faith Group/Agency Members designate a representative to serve on an ACPE Faith Group Advisory Council.

The Seminary Member category is for seminaries designated for membership by the Board of Directors. Eligibility is based on membership in the Association of Theological Schools or another recognized accrediting agency. Each Seminary Member names a liaison professor who becomes a member of the ACPE Seminary Advisory Council.

The International Affiliate Member category is for organizations or entities, in countries outside the United States of America , who support, and whose purpose and scope of activity is to enhance, the mission and vision of the ACPE and has been accepted for membership by the ACPE Board of Directors.

The Psychotherapist membership category is for persons who are fully licensed by their state to practice as a mental health professional OR who were previously certified as a Diplomate or Fellow in AAPC.  Psychotherapist applicants are required to return a completed Accountability for Ethical Conduct Policy Report form (included with the application) and supporting documentation (a copy of their license of their Fellow/Diplomate certificate).

The Practitioner membership category is for persons who are currently in their state‚Äôs licensure process to practice as a mental health professional OR who are interested in ACPE Psychotherapy activities OR who were previously affiliated with AAPC as other than Diplomate or Fellow members.  Practitioner applicants are required to return a completed Accountability for Ethical Conduct Policy Report form, included with the application.

Practitioner Member Application

The Retired Professional is for persons who were previously ACPE Psychotherapists or Practitioner members and are now fully retired OR were previously members in good standing with AAPC and are now fully retired.  Retired Professional applicants are required to return a completed Accountability for Ethical Conduct Policy Report form, included with the application.

The Student Member category is for persons currently enrolled in an advanced theology or mental health-related degree program.  Student applicants are required to return a completed Accountability for Ethical Conduct Policy Report form, included with the application, and are non-voting members. 

Student Member Application

The Institutional Member category is for organizations that support and whose purpose and scope of activity is to enhance the mission and vision of the ACPE. This membership is designated for spiritually integrated counseling centers, pastoral/spiritual counseling training centers, and other spiritual/pastoral care organizations. Institutions previously partnered with AAPC are encouraged to join ACPE under the institutional membership type.
