Phillips Exeter Academy is seeking a committed and experienced educator to serve as the Director of Religious and Spiritual Life for our residential school. Phillips Exeter is a secular institution with a strong commitment to meeting the religious and spiritual needs of its diverse student body. The director will serve as a leader for students and programming that supports those needs and promotes interfaith understanding and dialogue. The center of the religious and spiritual life of the campus community is the historic Phillips Church, located close to the center of our campus. The director would also be expected to live on campus, participate in the residential life of the school, and teach through an affiliation with an academic department. 

Position Purpose
Chaplaincy responsibilities include planning for and nurturing the religious and spiritual growth of the student body, and promoting interfaith dialogue and education.  Participation in the academic and residential life of the school includes affiliation with an academic department and dormitory, classroom teaching as appropriate, and community leadership and education.

Key Accountabilities


Oversee religious fellowship groups, advisers, proctors and interfaith student leadership.
Coordinate, plan and/or lead regular and special services to celebrate religious holidays or events for the campus community for students with diverse faith backgrounds and needs.
Lead and coordinate weekly secular community events, such as Evening Prayer and Meditation, as well as other special events held in Phillips Church.
Coordinate (and provide where appropriate) spiritual, religious, and/or pastoral counseling.
Cultivate and coordinate relationships with outside organizations and communities, acting as a liaison with other churches and religious organizations that support PEA students.
Coordinate, plan and/or lead periodic religious services, such as weddings and memorial services, in Phillips Church with appropriate religious leaders and colleagues and departments on campus.
Work with the Office of Institutional Advancement to coordinate and/or lead interfaith worship services for alumni reunion classes and participate in alumni events.  
Support the community, administration, and/or incident response team as necessary in emergent situations on or off campus as needed.
Be an active presence in the daily life of the Academy and participate in the residential program. 
Maintain affiliation with an academic department with opportunities to teach in the Harkness classroom (load to be determined). 
Demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
Serve on faculty committees as required.

Administer the religious and spiritual life programs.
Collaborate with adults across campus to support students and programing, including individual advisers, deans, teachers, administrators, and operational staff.
Supervise the department’s administrative staff.
Supervise, lead and provide support to advisers of faith-based student organizations.
Develop and manage the religious services budget.

The Milford Pastoral Counseling Center, Inc. is looking for a licensed (or soon to be licensed) psychotherapist with a heart for the Judeo-Christian tradition. Overall administrative and supervisory responsibility for the Clinical Pastoral Education Programs of the department's nationally accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program.  Develops, organizes, and directs program activities pertaining to provision of CPE programs, guidance and training to students, residents, interns and Supervisory Education Students (SESs) in accordance with philosophy, mission statement and objectives of the Hospital.  Assists the Administrator, Pastoral Services in the leadership of the department.


Requires Master of Divinity degree or equivalent formal theological education from a theological seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools. 

A PhD degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Pastoral Care and Counseling, or a related field, in addition to the M.Div. degree is preferred, as well as additional course-work in the field of Business Administration.

Requires level of knowledge of objectives and techniques of CPE supervision generally acquired through at least 5 years of experience as a CPE Supervisor and/or pastoral care provider in an acute health care setting and requires an additional three years of recent and progressive experience having administrative responsibilities for CPE programs.
Develops, organizes, and directs program activities pertaining to provision of CPE programs, guidance, and training to students, residents, interns, and Supervisory Education Students (SES) in accordance with philosophy, mission statement, and objectives of the hospital.   
Initiates and supports community partnerships.

Requires analytical abilities necessary to develop and administer budgets, policies and procedure, and administrative skills to plan, organize and direct activities of employees and students. 
Requires high level of interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with students, patients, families and employees, often during periods of stress.

Requires current ordination as a minister, pastor, or recognized spiritual leader and endorsement for specialized ministry from a nationally recognized religious community. 
Requires ACPE-certification as a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Supervisor.  Additional certification as a professional health care chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) preferred.

Requires understanding of computers for maintaining budgets, tracking departmental productivity and performance improvement monitors.

Works primarily in normal office environment and in the various patients care environments with possible exposure to communicable disease with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed. 

Work requires regular exposure to emotional strain when providing supervision or pastoral care and emotional and spiritual support to students, patients, families and staff during moments of acute or long term crisis.

Memorial Hermann (MH) invites qualified applicants to apply for a CPE faculty position. The successful applicant will join a faculty that includes two other ACPE Certified Educators who lead a CPE program, which currently includes 11 fulltime residents at two different hospitals, an extended CPE program, and a summer CPE internship. The faculty collaborates with and serves as a resource for professional chaplains in contributing to the wellbeing of patients, families, and healthcare professionals by providing care that engages their spiritual, emotional, and relational resources. The CPE faculty reports directly to the MH System Director of CPE.   1. Master of Divinity degree or equivalent academic credit as determined by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). Master of Theology or Doctorate preferred beyond Master of Divinity.

Chaplain Educator

The Spiritual/Pastoral Care Minister (Chaplain) provide spiritual and emotional support for residents, their families and staff within particular communities at St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown, PA.  The Spiritual/Pastoral Care Minister works closely with the interdisciplinary team in the communities to meet the holistic needs of residents. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position.

Job duties include:
-Completing the spiritual assessment on new admitted residents
-Assist residents in psychological, emotional or spiritual distress
-Collaborates with the Care Team in consultations about a resident's care and treatment
-Notifies appropriate/identified person(s) on status change of a resident
-Assists residents in coping with the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of diminishment and illness
