Funding for Innovative CPE Projects

The 2018 Innovative Program Award grant cycle is now open! Applicants are invited to submit proposals for innovative CPE projects that do not exceed $7,000.  This year a total of $20,600 is available in funding.

The 2018 Innovative Program Award application and proposal outline may be accessed by clicking HERE. Please submit an online application and proposal (5-page maximum) in PDF format by July 31, 2018. Send questions to Jasmine T. Okafor.

Please include the following information in your proposal materials:
  1. A completed application form with two signatures, one from either the chief executive officer/executive director or principal officer of the governing board, and one from the person who will administer the program/project.
  2. A concise description of the program/purpose for which the grant would be used following the proposal outline.
  3. A definite plan and timetable for beginning and completing the program/project.
  4. An explanation of the strategies and resources you have considered for sustaining the work of this project or fostering its replication after the completion of the grant, if the project is successful.
  5. A fully allocated, itemized budget of expenses and revenue related to the total cost of the project. Make certain that your budget reflects all activities listed in your project plan, and includes support provided by your organization and any other funding sources. Next to each revenue line, indicate if the revenue has been “secured” or is “pending.” The requested amount of funds from ACPE should not exceed $7,000.
If a proposal does not meet the funding criteria (see Guidelines), the Innovative Program Award Committee will notify the applicant immediately. Eligible applicants may be asked for additional information that will be due September 30, 2018.

At its November 2018 meeting, the ACPE Foundation Board will approve funding based on the Innovative Program Award Committee’s recommendations. Award recipient(s) will be notified no later than December 1, 2018, and funds will be disbursed in the first quarter of 2019.

Guidelines for Funding of Innovative CPE Projects

  1. Funded projects will have goals demonstrably consistent with the mission/vision/values and strategic initiatives of ACPE. Proposals should include a careful statement of the relevance of the project to this mission.
  2. Preference will be given to projects that extend the efforts of ACPE to develop innovative, experimental and prophetic programs extending CPE into new and atypical settings. Projects that test new pastoral theology, education or spiritual care concepts and methodologies will also be considered.
  3. Strong consideration will be given to projects that demonstrate a funding commitment from multiple sources (i.e. the ACPE Foundation is not the only entity from which you are requesting funding).
  4. Funding requests should not exceed $7,000, and should be for "seed money," not ongoing operating funds. Grant funds are awarded for one year. Projects may apply for and potentially receive funds annually for no more than three consecutive years. Proposals should indicate the specific uses for which the funds are sought and how the funds are to be administratively managed.
  5. Funds will not be authorized for construction or durable hardware (such as computers).

Reporting

Grant recipients will be required to submit written reports about what has been accomplished and an accounting for the expenditure of the grant funds. The report should include the results of innovations, including pictures and vignettes that can be shared with the ACPE membership at the ACPE annual conference so that the membership of ACPE may learn from funded projects. A final report to the Innovative Program Award Committee should also describe the impact on the community being served by the program. A reporting schedule will be provided with funding.

It is important to remember that grant award funds may only be expended for the purpose for which they were granted and that funds not so spent must be returned to the ACPE Foundation unless other arrangements have been previously approved by the ACPE Foundation.

If a proposal does not meet the funding criteria (see Guidelines), the applicant will be notified immediately. Eligible applicants may be asked for additional information that will be due September 30.
