Expanding our Modalities – Film in Spiritual Care Education
Speaker: Rabbi Beth Naditch
Together, we will screen a terrific CPE film which touches on a myriad of ethical issues: The Farewell Party. After the film, we will break into groups to workshop ways to use this and other films as we expand the ethics components of our curricula.
Description: THE FAREWELL PARTY is a compassionate dark comedy about friendship and knowing when to say good-bye. A group of friends at a Jerusalem retirement home build a machine for self-euthanasia in order to help their terminally ill friend. When rumors of the machine begin to spread, more and more people ask for their help, and the friends are faced with emotional and ethical dilemmas.
Differently Wired: Neurodiversity and Communication in Groups
Speaker: Dr. Jeannette Wolfe
Dr. Jeannette Wolfe is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School/Baystate Campus in Springfield MA. She works as Emergency Department Physician at Baystate Medical Center’s ED and is considered a good friend of the chaplains.
She has spent her entire attending career working and teaching in one of the busiest emergency departments in the Northeast. Besides emergency medicine, her passion is understanding ways in which biological sex and gender influence the ways our brains and bodies work as cutting edge research shows that men and women often have different responses to the same illness, trauma, toxins and therapies. She is also quite interested in techniques to improve effective communication between men and women under high stress, high impact situations.
Dr. Wolfe’s personal mission is to increase the awareness of this science and to use it to improve medical care and effective communication. She is a national lecturer and writer and has recently start-ed a podcast called seX & whY.
