Commemorative March:
Friday morning REM will join the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) in their annual march commemorating Martin Luther King, Jr. and the sanitation workers. The march begins at 485 Beale Street and end at the Lorraine Hotel/Civil Right Museum. There will be a brief program. Buses will leave from the hotel and return after the march.

Friday afternoon Excursions:
There will be several excursions. The Civil Rights Museum, STAX, and Mason Temple is one tour, but it has sold out, as well as the trip to Graceland. A third excursion is still available to The Church Health Center of Memphis. This excursion will include a tour of the facility with cooking, dance, and yoga demonstrations.

The Church Health Center Clinic was founded in 1987 by Dr. Scott Morris, a family practice physician and ordained United Methodist minister, to provide quality, compassionate and affordable medical care for the working uninsured, their families and the homeless – and to do it with a broad base of financial support from the faith community, and with the volunteer help of doctors, nurses, dentists and others.

Dr. Morris and one nurse saw 12 patients that first day, the fewest ever seen on a single day. Today, the Center's Clinic provides medical care for more than 50,000 patients of record with an on-site staff of six physicians, one nurse practitioner, two dentists, one optometrist, one psychiatrist, one pastoral counselor, and one social worker, as well as nursing and support staff. A network of more than 600 volunteer physicians, nurses, dentists, optometrists, and other health care professionals keep the Clinic open nights and on weekends. Some volunteer physicians see patients in their offices.

Now the largest faith-based clinic of its type in the country, the Church Health Center has become a national model. As many as 20 clinics in the United States have been patterned after the Church Health Center.
