Membership Information and Applications

ACPE Bylaws specify several membership categories for interested agencies and individuals. ACPE members receive THE JOURNAL OF PASTORAL CARE & COUNSELING, the ACPE NEWS, and information about the Annual Conference. Members are encouraged to participate in national and regional conferences. Membership is maintained by meeting Association standards, ethics, and payments of annual membership fees.


ACPE Membership categories open to individuals, agencies, and seminaries are:

The Individual Member category is for persons who support the mission and vision of the ACPE.

The Student Affiliate Member category is for persons who are currently enrolled in an educational program of clinical pastoral education.

The Retired Member category is for persons who have held Individual or Clinical membership status, have declared themselves as being retired, and wish to remain members of the ACPE.

The Clinical Member category is for persons who have completed four or more units of CPE recognized by the ACPE. Clinical member applicants are required to return a completed an Accountability for Ethical Conduct Policy Report form which is included with the application.

The Denomination/Faith Group/Agency Member category is for organizations that support, and whose purpose and scope of activity is to enhance, the mission and vision of the ACPE and have been accepted for membership by the Board of Representatives of the ACPE.

The Seminary Member category is for seminaries designated for membership by the Board of Representatives. Eligibility is based on membership in the Association of Theological Schools or another recognized accrediting agency, or on recommendation by an ACPE Region. Each Seminary Member names a liaison professor who becomes a member of the ACPE Seminary Advisory Council.

The International Affiliate Member category is for organizations or entities, in countries outside the United States of America , who support, and whose purpose and scope of activity is to enhance, the mission and vision of the ACPE and has been accepted for membership by the Board of Representatives of the ACPE.

The Network Member category is for special interest groups that support, and whose purpose and scope of activity is to enhance, the mission and vision of the ACPE and have been accepted for membership by the Board of Representatives of the ACPE.

Membership in the ACPE as a CPE Supervisor is available only through successful completion of the Certification process. More information is available in the Certification section of our website.
